A heart attack is a phenomenon in which the heart muscle is partially damaged or dies as a result of insufficient oxygen supply. Blood flowing through the coronary arteries carries oxygen to the heart muscle. The vast majority of heart attacks occur when, due to partial or complete blockage, this blood flow slows down or stops. This phenomenon is also sometimes called myocardial infarction or acute coronary syndrome. With early diagnosis, heart attacks are often treatable. At the same time, they can lead to death.

Compared to men, women are statistically less likely to survive due to a heart attack. The reasons for this have not yet been established. Perhaps this is due to the fact that, unlike men, women do not often seek medical help when problems arise. In addition, the symptoms they experience may differ from what men experience. Because of this, sometimes they simply do not recognize the symptoms of a heart attack.

Another likely reason is the fact that women have less heart and blood vessels than men, which makes them more easily damaged. Doctors are still looking for answers to these questions. One thing is certain: heart problems can and should be prevented.
